Today, Facebook launched a few new features including chat and something called Feedcrawler. But the most interesting release today is called Lexicon. Think of it as Google Trends but for social data. One of the Facebook engineers working on the projects sent me the above query, but the possibilities are endless. This tool will be useful in the next coming months when the presidential election is going on.

Tue, 15 Apr 2008 19:03:44 PDT
How will Beijing stage "green games" in one of the world's most polluted cities? By placing all sources of pollution on hold for two months. If the plan fails, the International Olympic Committee's president says smog could postpone some outdoor events. On August 21, 2008, Beijing may recommence browning. Until then, greening is the name of the game. It might not be full-speed re-browning, if a few of the measures taken this summer are made permanent. Most are temporary. Starting July 20, bu

Street Fight Dvd Review

Mon, 17 Mar 2008 05:08:38 PDT
Local politics are on blast in this amazing documentary that highlights how politics are horrible. Seriously, horrible! The film surrounds a 2002 Mayoral race in Newark, New Jersey between Cory Booker & Sharpe James. This movie is urgent. This movie is not just a portrait of corruption, scandals, and how politics are so corrupt, it is a symbol of change and substance that we are hearing about today. This movie shook my foundation. THis movie shoved the political system into my face, and

Where's Our Real World Data Portability?

Tue, 15 Apr 2008 16:23:45 PDT
There was a question posted on Slashdot yesterday in which the asker sought advice on an electronic cash register set up that would output sales data in an open format. While the asker was looking for information from the point of view of a shop owner, it got me thinking about data portability. There's been a lot of clamor over the past few months about who owns attention data and a major online movement has started with the aim of pushing companies into granting access to that data to the user

Austin City Limits Line-Up Announced April 15, 2008 It must be the day for big festival and line-up announcments! We’ve already told you about CHBP 2008, the first Sub-Pop Festival, and now Austin City Limits have unveiled their 2008 line-up. I’m tempted enough by Austin alone to make the trip to the festival, but acts like David Byrne, The Black Keys, Neko Case, The Racounters, and Robert Plant with Alison Kraus — make it even more tempting. abbey posted this in Festivals, news | No Comment

The CMT Awards Take "One-Hit Wonder" Jokes To An Uncomfortable New Level

Idolator: All About The Music, USA - Apr 15, 2008

Last night's CMT Music Awardsthe country-music television network's version of its sister network MTV's Video Music Awardsveered into "a little more than slightly excruciating" territory when co-host Miley Cyrus tripped her way through a Taylor Swift intro in which she talked about texting the glittery-guitar-hoisting country protege incessantly, an endless setup to what would be one of many "ha ha, Dad, I'm paying your bills!" zingers that the Hannah Montana star sent in the direction of her father/svengali, "Achy Breaky Heart" singer Billy Ray Cyrus. (Yes, he performed the line dance that sent him and his mullet to stardom back in 1992, the same year his cash cow was sired.) The opening skit, in which Trace Adkins and his really greasy mop tried currying favor with everyone from Donald Trump to the three remaining Presidential candidates in order to get passes to the show, also mined that route; its final punchline was that Billy Ray was making extra scratch by scalping tickets, which were of course hot properties because of his daughter's presence. That girl is going to be so messed up in three years. Full list of winnerswhich includes three awards for Kellie Pickler, two for Taylor Swift, and one for that super-creepy video where Jon Bon Jovi and Leann Rimes make outafter the jump.

_ Video of the year: Taylor Swift, "Our Song."
_ Male video: Trace Adkins, "I Got My Game On."
_ Female video: Taylor Swift, "Our Song."
_ Group video: Rascal Flatts, "Take Me There."

_ Breakthrough video: Kellie Pickler, "I Wonder."
_ Collaborative video: Bon Jovi featuring LeAnn Rimes, "Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore."

_ Supporting character of the year: Rodney Carrington from Trace Adkins' "I Got My Game On."
_ Wide open country video: Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, "Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)."
_ Tearjerker video: Kellie Pickler, "I Wonder."
_ Comedy video: Brad Paisley, "Online."
_ Video director: Michael Salomon for Toby Keith's "High Maintenance Woman" and Trace Adkins' "I Got My Game On."
